I was born in Tucson, AZ in 1980, moved to Texas with my family in 1988, and spent my childhood summers in Denver, CO with my grandparents. My high energy level kept my parents on the run and me outdoors. My summers were spent mostly outside: hiking, biking, and playing kick-the-can with the neighborhood kids. I ran track and played soccer in high school. And when I had to get that first job; it was lifeguarding that kept me active and outdoors.
Running sustained me for most of my college career, but after my first triathlon with my mountain bike I was hooked on cycling. I own three bikes and ride to work and school everyday! When I first heard about Texas 4000, I was encouraged by what was being accomplished with just hard work and a bike. I couldn’t wait to be a part of it.
However, as a returning student working towards a second undergraduate degree and hoping to matriculate into medical school, my last two summers have been booked with classes. Finally, my summer has come. I have the time to commit, to join my small efforts with my teammates and all of our supporters to make a big difference.
Personal Statement
I ride to fight and to persevere against the odds: to hell with the statistics!
I ride for my friends that have battled and beaten Cancer; whose strength and courage motivates me to make the most out of everyday.
I ride for those who have lost their battle, to fight in their name. I ride to show there is always hope; always someone out there fighting with you.
This journey joins the efforts of many into a physical manifestation that displays the hope, the strength, and the shear number of people fighting against Cancer. No one is ever alone in this struggle. We are out here for you.
Behind every rider and every reason, the charity and effort of so many supporters is put into each pedal stroke. Thank you for this wonderful opportunity to make a difference.
