Biography

I am a proud native Texan, and I call Clear Lake, Texas my hometown. For almost fifteen years I grew up here, enjoying the waterfront vibe and all the activities that come with living on a lake that feeds into the Gulf of Mexico. In high school I ran with my track team around NASA, and experienced Texas high school football first hand as a member of the drill team.

Now, I have fallen in love with Austin, Texas like so many students that come here. I study Human Biology at UT, and try to take advantage of all the awesome opportunities that living here has offered me. Six days a week I spend my mornings on Town Lake, as a member of Texas Crew, UT’s club rowing team. From my experience as a rower, I have learned the true limits one can push herself, in mind and body (and how much sleep you can get by on). In my free time I like to go for runs, walk my miniature dachshunds, and ride my family’s horses. One day I hope to be an Ob/Gyn, and safely bring new lives into the world.

Personal Statement

As someone that is familiar with studying human health, I know that cancer is one of the greatest challenges to the medical research community. It is a disease that affects all races, genders, and ages of people. The need for a cure or reasonable treatment is so great, however, the nature of the disease makes it difficult to develop one. Although I have not been directly affected by cancer causing the death of a loved one, I know that it is likely I will be more than once in my lifetime. As a healthy individual, I believe that Texas 4000 is one way I can support the research that will someday result a cure for this pervasive disease. I look forward to inspiring others to support the cause and instilling hope in those living with the disease, by dedicating my training, hard work, and summer to the fight against cancer.
