Biography
I am Jack Reynolds and I am currently a sophmore in the Radio-Television-Film program at the University of Texas. I grew up in the small town of Coleman, Texas where I participated in numerous activities ranging from cycling to high school sports. I have two wonderful sisters that attend Baylor University and Texas. My father is a physician and my mother is currently employed at his clinic. All throughout high school my friends and I continuously pushed the envelope. We enjoyed extreme activities such as free climbing, parkour, and cliff diving. Just this past summer my friends and I completed an 1100-mile trek to California on our bicycles where we organized the entire trip. Upon departure, we raised over $4,500 dollars and we received media coverage from Abilene and Lubbock news. Since I was eight years of age I have wanted to direct films. I love all aspects of filmmaking and I have made numerous films of my own. If there is one thing that my family has taught me it is to have compassion for others. Cancer is a horrible disease, and I am determined to make an impact in the lives of those who have been affected.
Personal Statement
Throughout my entire life I have stood by the fundamental belief that all human beings are put on this earth to inspire others. Although life presents us all with overwhelming obstacles, it is when we turn to each other that we can truly obtain hope. My mission in life is to offer this hope to others in times of need. I have known many cancer patients and I have seen the power of hope. I have witnessed the workings of encouragement and I am passionate to extend this inspiration to those affected by cancer. What a privilege and honor it would be to ride for an organization that spreads this hope at a national level.
Although a significant portion of my family has suffered from cancer, I am personally dedicating this ride to my Uncle Kelly Reeves who has been diagnosed with esophageal cancer. The physicians had initially given him a poor prognosis back in 2007. However, he has courageously fought the battle for two whole years and his condition has significantly improved. He has yet to complain about his hardships and he has touched my life to never give up. I admire his struggle and I feel like this organization offers me a chance to honor his fight by conquering my own battles. As a compassionate individual, I feel lead to do everything in my power to raise money for people like my Uncle. It would truly be an honor to ride for him just to experience a portion of what he has to go through on a daily basis.
