Biography
I was born in Calgary to a family of five. I grew up in lots of different places and ended up going to high school in Houston. My family has always been there for me through it all and my three older sisters are very important to me. Most of my relatives live in New York, a place that will always be special to me as my home base.
My hobbies include traveling, shopping, and reading. I love the outdoors and feel happiest by the water. I have been playing tennis since middle school and I also scuba dive with my dad. I have great friends who mean the world to me. Doing anything with them makes me happy.
I am currently a junior at the University of Texas studying journalism. I hope to go to law school after graduation, but my career is still up for consideration. I am involved in a number of clubs at school and love being in college!
Personal Statement
One of the worst parts about cancer is the “What ifs.” Every person I’ve met who has been affected by cancer has one. They think, "what if I had been there more," "what if they had been more careful," "what if there was something I could have done." For me, it’s "what if it was discovered earlier." Would my grandmothers have survived? Would they still be with me today to meet the person I am becoming? Both of my grandmas were taken from me too soon. Now, instead of just wondering “what if,” I have the chance to take action to work toward preventions and cures. I am riding to spread knowledge so that people realize how important regular checkups and healthy lifestyles are. I am riding to show others that even in the most difficult times, hope is always present.
