Biography

I was born and raised in suburban Dallas (Plano, specifically). My family is strong and wonderful. It was off to Austin after high school to start at UT, eventually choosing to pursue an anthropology degree with a minor in music. In the years since, I have: been involved in political activism; participated in a number of absurdist humor activities, often involving acting silly in public for its own sake; owned unusual pets (including my current and future love, a potbellied pig named Leroy); played a number of instruments in a number of bands of a number of genres; taken time off from school to find direction, then actually gone back and successfully completed my degree; worked with children in an after-school program; and become a haberdasher at a downtown hat store. Apparently, though, it's not enough, and now I want to bike across the continent in order to help change the world. Who knew?

Dogs and babies seem to like me, which I suppose is a good sign.

Personal Statement

Cancer is insidious. It strikes without logic or cause. It is supremely terrifying. This is why it is essential that all of us do everything we can to contribute to the growing understanding, and therefore successful treatment, of this disease. I believe that human beings are fundamentally good and possess great power when they are willing to work together toward a common goal. The state of cancer treatment and knowledge is improving constantly, and as long as there are people out there willing to put themselves aside for others, great strides will continue.

I am strongly driven by a love for the world and its people. There is an infinite richness to life which can only be found in sharing it with others. I have received so much from so many, and have much to give. I am humbled by the gifts of living within this wonderful human community. The best way to thank the world is to dedicate oneself to improving it. This is why I ride.
