Biography

I spent most of my formative years in the North Texas town of McKinney. Only thirty minutes north of Dallas what once was a small rural community is now a burgeoning suburb. Since Middle School I was competitive in track and field, cross country and football. I also worked as a lifeguard for several summers at a local country club.

With a degree in Biochemistry from the University of Texas Austin I hope to continue my pursuit of learning by entering graduate or medical school. Right now I am working as a medical assistant at a pediatric office in Austin. While studying at UT I picked up the sport of rugby. I played for three seasons as a wing, fullback, and center for the UT Rugby Team and loved every minute of it. Austin is my favorite city in the state of Texas. It has allowed me to indulge in so many of my hobbies including running, cycling, music, food and cooking.

Personal Statement

Three close relatives of mine have fought the battle with cancer; one losing, two winning.

Unfortunately, cancer can affect anyone regardless of age, sex, or ethnicity. These variables are out of an individual’s control. Therefore, it is important that the variables an individual can control are taken advantage of. These variables are in the form of prevention, knowledge, health choices, lifestyle choices, and the ability to ask for help. Modern medicine is constantly approaching a cure for cancer. However, a cure will not prevent continued incidences. I believe the fight against cancer is a proactive one. The more people know about cancer and what steps they CAN take to prevent it the sooner it becomes a proactive battle. Cancer becomes a winning fight not a losing one.
