Biography
I was born and raised in San Antonio, TX. I graduated from Alamo Heights High School in 2003 destined to be a Longhorn. I am currently a sophomore at UT majoring in Mechanical Engineering. I love playing basketball, disc golf, hunting, and most anything outdoors. I haven't done much cycling since I got my driver's license but am enthusiastic about starting again. The first time I heard about Texas4000 led me to three hours of reading about the cause on the website, and I instantly knew I wanted to help. I have seen the effects of cancer first hand, and with the help of this organization, I plan to help donate towards the research and hopefully the cure of this disease.
Personal Statement
When I was only 8 years old, my grandparents were forced to move from Florida to San Antonio to live with my mom and me. The reason? Cancer. After going through over a year of seemingly successful treatment for colon cancer, my grandmother's cancer returned, but this time it was serious. My grandmother's colon cancer excelled to stage 4, and only one doctor(who was located in Texas) even gave her even a slight chance to live. After years of watching my grandmother suffer right in front of my eyes, she began to get better. Against all odds, her treatment had proven successful and over time, she rid her body entirely of the disease. I saw first hand the horrifying effects this disease can have, as well as the possibilities for research and successful treatment of this disease that are possible. Texas4000 has the same goal as I do and what better way to do it than to ride further than any average person would think is humanly possible.
