Biography
Hello All! My name is Usman and I was born and raised in Houston, Texas. I'm a freshman at the University of Texas at Austin and am proud to be here! I'm currently majoring in Biology, but I plan to switch into the Business School next year and remain on the premed track. I hope to one day become a doctor and help those inflicted with the deadly disease we're all riding our bikes to alaska to fight, Cancer. Maybe by the time I'm done with medical school, I can use the 2050 Texas 4000 team's money to achieve this endeavor!!
Personal Statement
The week I found out about the Texas 4000 was coincidentally a very significant period of my life. My grandfather was first diagnosed with Prostate cancer about 21 years ago. During a successful operation, his prostate gland was removed, consequently putting him into a state of remission for the next twenty or so years. A few days before I heard about this extraordinary bike ride for the fight against cancer, my grandfather was told by his doctor during a routine check up that the very disease he had conquered 21 years earlier was re-emerging around the same region of his body. All my family and I could do was pray for the best, and it was this predicament that troubled me most, that is all we could do. The fact that cancer, a disease resulting in an implausible number of deaths every year, has not been cured yet, hurts me. My grandfather's relapse into a disease he thought he had beaten years ago, hurts me. The plight all cancer victim's and their families go through, hurts me. So when I learned of the opportunity to ride a bike from Austin to Anchorage for the sole purpose of raising money to beat cancer, I realized that praying is not the only thing I can do. Together, we can beat this, and I sternly believe the Texas 4000 is colossal step forward on the path to the cure.
