Biography
I am from the West Texas town of San Angelo. The dirt, heat, wind, and breathtaking sunsets are what make it the best part of Texas. Whenever people from the outside (of Texas) think about what Texas might be like, they think of San Angelo, Texas. I grew up working on my family's ranch and got into cycling during my Junior year in high school. I am extremely excited to be a part of the Texas 4000 and I look forward to taking on the challenge of reaching the 1 million dollar mark and shedding more light on this particular issue.
Personal Statement
I truly am riding for those who can't. My grandmother died before I ever really got to know her. She died of ovarian cancer that was not caught soon enough. Everytime my parents talk about her, they tell me how much we would have gotten along. Her and I thought a lot alike, so they say. I am riding for all of the kids out there who might not have had enough time with their grandparents or other relatives. I am also riding for my aunt who passed away due to an extremely agressive form of breast cancer when I was a freshman in high school. She left behind a loving husband and three wonderful children. These devestating losses have left me with a certain sense of purpose. If it takes an insane act such as riding my bike across the continent to bring attention to this issue then I'de better get peddling. Aunt Doris and Yaya... this is for you.
