Biography
I moved to Austin Texas when I was 8 years old and grew up riding bikes on the green belt of Bull Creek Park. I am now a senior at the University of Texas working on a degree in Japanese language and culture as well as a minor in business. I am also a teacher assistant for Dr. Cleveland??s MIS Foundations in the Red Mccomb??s Business School at the University of Texas, and I sit as community represenative on the board of directors for College House Inc. I have held several jobs, but none have come close to providing me the altruistic fullfilment that Texas 4000 offers through its mission. I look forward to helping inspire people and learn more about myself with this program.
Personal Statement
I work hard to give to the world. Ghandi had said, ??You must be the change you want to see in the world.? Now comes the time in my life to give myself towards a change of so much suffering. I am motivated by the adventure and the opportunity to achieve a great charitable cause. I cry over the love I have lost to cancer, Grandma, so I will fight to improve the lives of the people I still have. Thus, I seek to make a difference in improving these facts given by the American Cancer Society:
۰ 1.3 million people contract cancer every year in US
۰ An estimate of 1/2 men and 1/3 women will develop a form of cancer
۰ Between 65% and 85% of cancer deaths are preventable through healthy living
habits and early detection screening.
۰ Five year cancer survival rates have increased from 38% in 1960 to 62% in 1999.
