About: I was born and raised in Beaumont, Texas(Gushin with fun since 1901). While most people only know Beaumont as the setting of the movie “Footloose,” I know it as home. Being the youngest of seven kids has drastically shaped who I am. Growing up I always had someone to look up to, and aspire to be. My brother and my sisters have set an incredible path for me to follow, and with them I always had a role model, confidant, and best friend. I spent most of my childhood trying to catch up with my six older siblings. Being the youngest of seven kids has been an incredibly frustrating, ridiculous, and all consuming adventure. We have laughed, cried, fought to the point of exhaustion, but every single sibling, all six of them, has greatly shaped me into the person I am today.

My parents have been amazing at encouraging independence. From a very young age they have encouraged me to get out into the world and expand my horizons. I have hiked the Swiss Alps, biked thru the Netherlands, cruised around the Aegean, and taken dancing lessons in Israel. I have taken cooking lessons in Italy, snorkelled the Great Barrier Reef, bathed in the famous Hungarian baths and watched the sunrise from the beach in Barcelona. I have heard the saying that if you are not uncomfortable, you are not growing. This is the motto I try to live my life by. If I am not continuously challenging myself and putting myself into unusual situations and scenarios, then I am not giving myself the opportunity to grow and stretch myself into the person I was meant to be.

This is why I applied for Texas 4000. Not only is it something that will test my physical and mental state, but it is also something that is so far out of my comfort zone that will yield so many amazing opportunities and learning experiences. I want to be a part of the fight against cancer, and hopefully riding each mile will give me a chance to raise enough money to make a difference in someone else’s life.

Right now I am 20 years old in my third year at the University of Texas. My major is Radio Television and Film, and my dream job is to be a television talk show host. My favorite thing to do in the entire world is laugh, and I read like a maniac. I am silly, passionate, self determined, and hard headed. I believe that If you’re dreams don’t scare you, they aren’t big enough. I am a One Directioner, a friend, daughter, aunt, and sister. I am a fighter against cancer.

Cancer sucks, so let's do something about it.

Why I Ride

I ride for my daddy, Hubert Oxford III. He is the funniest, most exuberant, and caring man I know. I was nine years old and my father told us he had been diagnosed with prostate cancer. While he was stripped of his physical strength, his character and inner strength shone through.

I ride for Philip Parker, my life long childhood friend who spent far too much time in a hospital bed instead playing outside with his friends.

I am happy to say both of these men in my life were lucky enough to kick cancer’s ass, but this is not always the case. Cancer is something that is unavoidable. Families have been destroyed by it, and lives have been shattered by this crippling disease. I ride for those who have lost the battle, those currently fighting, and those who have been victorious over the disease.

I know as a part of the Texas 4000 team not only will I be participating in something extraordinary, but I will be a small part in changing the odds against a terrible disease and helping the large number of people it has touched.
