About:

My name is Hannah Sieben and I'm from Boulder, Colorado. I just moved to Austin this past year after shocking my family with my decision to go to The University of Texas. So far it has turned out to be the best decision I could have made!

I am studying Biology here at the University of Texas in order to pursue medical research. This is the kind of science that will make a difference in everyone’s lives, and I cannot wait to be a part of that!

Why I Ride

I believe that you don’t have to have cancer to feel the effects of it. We see it all around us. Facebook pages dedicated to the four year old fighting acute lymphoblastic leukemia, the family friend who overcame stage four lymphoma, and of course, those who lose the fight and pass away. This is simply what makes cancer so important. Maybe it starts at the smallest gene at the smallest chromosome. That chromosome begins to code for a protein that then gets out of control. Suddenly, the cell is cancerous and begins to divide faster than expected. Now, the smallest gene on the smallest chromosome has changed someone’s life, consequently affecting all those around them.

One thing that cancer cannot change is our hope. The type of hope that leads to determination and dedication for finding a cure, for living, for never giving up. This is the hope that will change the world.

I ride for hope. For Kevin Mulshine and Emily Andersen, who won their fights. For Namma and Papa, who didn’t. For the future cancer patients that will persevere, even when they don’t want to. When something touches the lives of everyone around you, it touches you, too.
