Host Overview
Throughout the duration of our trip, Texas 4000 is always looking for willing hosts to assist us with the transmission of our three pillars (hope, knowledge, and charity) as we start and end our days in each individual location. If you are currently residing in any of
the cities
we will be passing through this summer and would be interested in assisting us in the ways outlined below, please contact our travel committee chair
, for more information.
Hope
First, the sharing of hope. As I'm sure you have a much more intimate knowledge of your local community than we do, this is an area where you personally can provide us with the most assistance. We would like to spread our positive message to any and all people in your community affected by or struggling with cancer. This not only includes hospitals, charitable cancer organizations, and cancer treatment centers, but also any individuals within your community you may personally know who are unfortunate enough to be touched by cancer.
Knowledge
Second, the transmission of knowledge throughout your community. Cancer awareness is an integral part of fighting cancer, and we would like to pass on our knowledge regarding early detection, prevention, and general cancer awareness to as many people in your community as absolutely possible. We are able and willing to give presentations while in your area. Ideas from the past have included church congregations and places of employment, but our opportunities are boundless and if there are any other applicable locations in your community where large numbers of people gather in addition to these please let us know.
Charity
Last, but definitely not least, is charity. This year, the 2008 Texas 4000 team has set a goal of raising $350000.0, which when met, will push Texas 4000's four year total of money raised over $1,000,000! To accomplish this, trip expenses must be kept at an absolute minimum; which for us means no hotels, few showers, and the continuous consumption of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches if necessary. If possible, we invite you to help make our trip more pleasant by providing us, or pointing us towards someone in your community who could provide us with shelter, food, and, if we're lucky, showers for our road worn cyclists.
