Day 6: Ardmore, OK

Today we crossed the border out of Texas. I drove the second support vehical which was neat because I got to see the team as a whole from behind. The riding of the group has improved significantly. With the exception of Paul (who fell yet again racing to another sign- by the way he won by running to it after he was patched up) we have not had any more major falls. We have divided ourselves into teams of three. Each group has a specified drive/support/leadership day of the week. So far the system has worked great.

We are staying at the YMCA. Currently half of our team is engaged in a yoga workout with an instructor. We had a warm reception complete with police escort, great accommodation, dinner, and media coverage for tomorrow. Thanks so much to everyone here.

I mention yoga for two reasons. First- it is quite a sight to see our manly men twisting themselves into pretzels. Second (and more importantly of course)- it provides a needed stress relief. Today was the first day we visited with cancer patients here at Mercy hospital. We split up into small groups and got to the opportunity to speak with several individuals at various places along their journey to beat cancer. My heart goes out to all those people, their families, and the professionals who are treating them. I was amazed to see such positive attitudes and bright spirits. I think our whole team walked away from the experience not really knowing who to process it. After we left the hospital, we talked in our groups about the experience and tried to make sense of our mixed emotions. I think as the trip continues we'll find a place for the memories we've gathered today.

I went to ER to get my knee checked out. I have a sac of fluid under my knee-cap which is causing me a significant amount of discomfort. However, this was a positive diagnosis because nothing is broken or out of place. I incured this injury in the gully (see journal entry "day 1"). I will decide tomorrow if I can ride. I have perscriptions for strong narcotics and anti-inflamatory medication, however I won't get them until tomorrow night.

Outside is the most beautiful rainbow I've ever seen. It is complete from one end to another and spans the entire sky. Wow. Following it is a huge storm. Tornado alley, here we come!
