Don't Panic

On Saturdays, Abram and I drive the support vehicles for the team. Van Duty is a great team building chore. Of course I would rather be biking, but helping my other teammates all day is more fulfilling than pedaling. I had a wonderful day: had some time to listen to music in the van, write in my journal, and read a few pages in my first book of this summer, "Call of the Wild," by Jack London. Now, I do not mean to sound like van duty is without stress. It is a tough job to lead 20 cyclists through a circumfrance of the Dallas/Ft. Worth Metroplex. But, even though we took a few wrong turns, we were able to get back on track because the cyclists are very patient and understanding. Laura says that she is doesnt expect anything to go right, so all the great things that are happening are like a big bonus. Also, my props for the day go out to the thoughful people who work the fast food joints, Adventure sports, and gas stations of the area. Without their directions, we would still be circling around Grapevine, TX. Tonight at our meeting, my advice for the support vehicle drivers was taken from the "Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy." Don't Panic.

Tonight at the Columbia Care Center in Sherman, where we are spending the night, I met Kay. Kay is a nurse, and she is taking care of us tonight. Kay is a Cancer survivor of 26 years. She says that though Cancer is genetic in her family, she still believes that the road to survivorship after diagnosis is all about attitude. Kay is extremely enthusiastic about our trip and especially about our cause. My prayers go out to her family.

Maurine, another nurse here, who thought we were on a 'bike' trip, said that we must be setting some kind of World Record when she found out that we were pedaling to Alaska.

We just watched the local evening news and they made a wonderful story about us. But If I did really just watch the news then that means that it must be after 10, and since I woke up at 5 this morning, I must be getting to bed.

I Love you all, MZW
