Better than a Crowd Lining the Street

In Ft. Collins, CO, Brynn and I met a fellow touring cyclist named Chris at a fundraising event for the Lidia Dody Breast Cancer Foundation. We spoke very enthusiastically aboutour biking experiencesfor quite a while that afternoon. In the coursse of the conversation Chris found out how little that we really knew about our route through Canada. He drove off to buy us some AAA maps, but returned empty handed because the store had already closed. We exchanged addresses, and he promised to send us some maps and travel guides to our next mail drop. Brynn and I recieved a package in Glacier National Park, just on the border of Canada. It contained all the maps we needed as well as a camping guide and travel guide. These have proved indispesible over the course of the last month. The package also contained a letter from Chris's wife Sonja which has touched the hearts and inspired the bodies of everyone on this team. It turns out that Sonja is a breast cancer survivor as well as a very articulate writer. She wrote:

"Thank you so much for your dedication in helping in the fight against cancer. I feel as though you are riding for me too! With my own fight against breast cancer I just don't know if I'll ever be able to ride long distances again. However, because of all the wonderful people (like you) who raise money for cancer awareness and medical advancements, at least I have to date beat cancer and am now given a second chance to see our 3 children grow up! So when you are next up against that monstrous mountain pass, I hope you'll think of me and our family - and know that yoyu are truly making a difference in the lives of individuals and families. God's blessing to you all, and we will keep you in our prayers for a safe journey!"
