by Eric Chen Feb 15, 2010 Looks like we made it. 70 days, 4500 miles, hundreds of PB&Js later… we made it. We started our morning with our final ride dedication… Pastor Dan shared a few words of encouragement, and we were off…
We just took it slow and enjoyed the day—we had a day full of new encounters and we didn’t want it to end.
We knew we were getting close:
And of course, it wouldn’t be a day in T4k without a flat tire
Soon we arrived at Mirror Lake where the Alaska Texas Exes set us up a rest stop and where I met up with my family again!
After a delicious lunch, we headed out to Alaskan Pacific University where our official finish line actually was! sea of Orange Knights
We walked our bikes into the finish to honor our teammates who got injured on our ride and could no longer ride in with us. It was a glorious sight:
We gathered for one last hakka led by Joel, Jon, and Zaid – our AK border race winners
And of course, the long awaited celebratory dinner:
Those we rode for all summer – the banners which travelled with us all across America and Canada.
What a journey. Thank you all for keeping up all these days. Without your support, I could not have made it through. If there’s one good thing cancer’s done, it’s bringing us all together—united under one cause and mission, and giving me 43 new brothers and sisters. But for many, the fight isn’t over yet—and until it is, I’ll keep on fighting and living, letting my life bear testimony to the bravery of those I’ve met on this journey to Alaska. I encourage you all to keep fighting the good fight as well—thanks again for all your support. I’m glad to say you were with me every mile of the way. Peace & love from Anchorage, Eric C.
