Weather

I have been meaning to write for sometime now. And I am sorry for the delay in correspondence. But I am back in the swing of another semester and will try to actively update my profile.

Winter in Austin: you never know what you’re going to get. A few weeks ago at the weekly Sunday Jack&Adam’s shop ride, we headed out to Buda and back. Usually it’s a nice 30-mile ride, but we had head/side winds that gusted up to 20 mph. At times my bike was swept sideways with such force I thought I was going meet the street with my helmet. And at other moments my pedaling was only an exercise in futility!

However, the next week brought perfect training weather: spring like sunny and warm days. I was praising Texas and how wonderful it was to be cycling in January wearing sunglasses and minimal cycling gear. But then, winter decided to return (and before Punxsutawney Phil had given his decree). This past weekend’s T4K Saturday ride and Sunday bike rodeo left me with numb toes and a longing for summer heat.

Weather: there will be good days and there will bad days. I know we are going to face almost any weather combination imaginable this summer on our ride, but it is only weather. When I think about struggling on my bike, riding in memory and in honor of so many people, I am overwhelmed with the courage and strength put forth each and everyday by those affected cancer.

It is you that gives me strength and courage and in turn I hope that our ride gives you whatever you need to weather your battle against this awful disease.
