by Carly Sturdivant Aug 03, 2004 ok so there is a huge line behind me, so this is going to be quick. we are in beaver creek, YK. a grand total of 19 miles away from the alaskan border, which we will cross tommorow. its kind of funny. you meet people and tell them where you are cycling to, and they finally dont look at you like you are crazy. a sure sign that you are close. they do give you a look when you tell them where you started. quite the reversal from a couple months ago. the rides have been good. there have been a lot of climbs, but pretty flat terrain between. headwinds tend to be a pain in the butt, but we have experience with all that. in fact sierra is so accustomed to it that quite a few of them have purchased areo bars to help them cut through it. our new nemesis is the unpaved road. there are sections of the highway which are nothing but loose rocks. this leads to fishtailing, flats, lots of dirt in your eye and if you are unlucky enough - a rather painful fall. today we finished and have managed to wash away about four layers of dirt. fortunatlly this RV park comes complete with free internet and showers. ok, so the line is getting restless. im off to the showers and will be writing soon...FROM ALASKA!!!
