by Mariana Fanous Dec 11, 2009 First, I'm super duper EXCITED because I just recently hit $4,000!!! Whoo hoo!!! I really hope to raise $9,000. This means I have to continue working hard! I called the principal of an elementary school in my hometown not too long ago to see about reserving the place for a (hopefully) benefit concert! We'll see... that's all in the works! :) Secondly, I went on my safety ride yesterday. I'm not going to lie... I was pretty miserable! There were only five people there, and I was the most inexperienced rider; which meant I was at the back the majority of the time. This meant no talking partners for the majority of the time! On top of that, the weather was FREEEEEEZING! I could not feel my toes. They didn't warm up until two hours after I finished the ride! Anytime I clipped out, that numb tingly feeling rushed through my feet! I also don't think I've done any hardcore physical activity in cold weather since my junior year in high school, so the cold temperature was burning through me. My lungs felt like they were frozen over! Overall, it was GREAT! I did say I was pretty miserable, but it was fun in its own way to get a taste of what part of my summer is going to be like! It wasn't quite as bad as I had described. To be honest, the whole time I just thought of Mrs. Henning, the wonderful person I'm dedicating my ride to. I couldn't help but think of how much she has to go through and compare it to the little I was feeling during this one ride. It made me feel small and actually a little pathetic that I was uncomfortable for these two hours. For me, this is by choice and nowhere near being compared to cancer. I am just happy to know that all of our work affects and reaches people and that we are making a difference to those that we care so much about! Training and fundraising is great! Finals are horrible... but I'm so close to the end of the semester! More to come later; Goodnight!
