by Jared Muston Dec 07, 2009 The growing amount of work piling up at the end of the semester has had a strong negative correlation with the weekly-ness of my blogging... About a month ago most of us got our bikes and headed out to Fayetteville, TX for a weekend-long T4K training camp. A group of coaches taught us all the basics - clipping in, steering, emergency braking, etc. - then we set out for a 35 mile training ride. We split into four groups based on skill level and athleticism, but we all got spread out amongst our own groups pretty early into the ride. I decided to kill it and really push myself to the limit the whole way, and I could definitely feel it through my entire body at the end of the day. Three hours in a head wind on a bike will do that to you. The next day the coaches really emphasized group pace line riding. We did another 35 miles in about the same time as the day before, but this time the ride was much more leisurely. We all learned the importance of drafting and having a rotation so that one person is not breaking the head wind the entire time. Teamwork makes dreamwork. All in all, training camp was a lot of fun. I had a great time on the bike and I really feel like I got to know my teammates a lot better. I'm really looking forward to the rest of the year. It's gonna be an awesome journey. Since training camp, I've continued to hit the stationary bikes every day and tried to get out on my bike as much as possible. I rode laps around White Rock Lake when I was home for Thanksgiving (shout out to Todd Ashbrook) and now I can't wait to get through finals so I can focus on training. 12pm on December 15th can't come soon enough.
