Week Eight- In the Van
by Meg Merritt
Jul 28, 2004

We are in Teslin, Yukon Territory and while it's really week nine, I will provide a recap of week eight.

I had to get in the van. The whole knee situation has gotten me down, but Tuesday I had to give myself a little pep-talk. It ended up being a great week with a lot of time for reflection. Walt sent me Bill Clinton's memoirs, MY LIFE. When I got it, the team laughed and asked, "where are you going to put that? "(my luggage, while not the largest of bags, weighs about 60 pounds). Anyway, I love that book. It's kept me busy and

I don't know what I'd do without it. Not only does it get the team talking politics, but it's a historical recap on the last 40 years in American politics.

Thursday we stayed near the most beautiful glacial lake in Mezidian Junction Provincial Park. We swam for a long time and just for the cardio vascular challenge I'd been missing in the van, Paul, Libby, and Skip were in the canoe

and suggested I pull them while I swam. We did it and I laughed so hard I nearly drowned.

The team has been really supportive and I even started riding today and feeling positive about the rest of the trip. We are at a hole in the wall internet cafe, so I must jet; we'll be in Whitehorse shortly and I'll write again.

By the way, it's about 65 degrees F.
