by Michael West Jul 21, 2004 Smithers is a nice little alpine town in Western B.C. I rode most of the day today with Brandon. We did not talk about much because we were busy pounding our pedals. An adolescent black bear ran along side the road with us for a bit. When Brandon first noticed it, we stopped and it looked up at us with its big pointy ears. We also noticed a pretty drastic change in the landscape. We are entering the coastal mountain ranges. For the past week, we had been in the flat wilderness between the Rockies and the coast. So, we noticed a scenery difference and we noticed a difference in the ride difficulty. I looked at the map today and noticed that we are only about 150 miles from Alaska now. What you say? That is the southern tip of Alaska I am talking about. We actually still have about 2 weeks before entering Alaska. A few days ago in Prince George, Alok, Martina, and Abram gave a cancer awareness presentation to our hosts after a dinner that they hosted for us. They did a wonderful job, and the audience was full of good questions. My time is about up, so I have to run. ~~Mike
