Day 40 - Lincoln City to Portland (92 mi)

How excited are we about Portland???

That is very exciting. Today we rode off the coast to Portland, Oregon! Or I should say, my team rode while I sagged for them. The morning was exciting as I had only 1.5 hours of sleep from watching the Harry Potter premier the night prior. Nevertheless, I crawled out of bed, helped to cook a breakfast of pancakes and English muffins with Michael and Richard (my fellow sags for the day*), and packed up the trailer. During ride dedications, Mike found out that he was given the day off to go visit the place where his mother’s ashes were spread. We were glad to help him out, he was excited and speechless to be able to go.

Emily ended up taking his place, and I rode with her to Portland. The drive was a long one (92 miles) but we ended up getting to set up rest stops pretty frequently along the way.

Our rest stop: gummy bear con Ritz and PB, cereal, watermelon

We even ended up getting a donation from Dairy Queen along the way, which ended up being our lunch. At our 3rd rest stop, Jenna and Sarah showed up with some unconventional clothing on…

Eventually we made it to the outskirts of Portland where we met up with Chris, a 2007 Rockies rider who led us into the city.

Hanging out with Chris, 07 Rockies rider.

Once there, Sunny & Chad—who helped organize our stay with the Texas Exes—greeted us with tea, beer, water, and fresh berries! Later, some other Texas Exes brought over a dinner of pasta and salad which was AMAZING.

Tonight we sleep at Sunny & Chad’s pad, and we’re excited about tomorrow when we get to visit downtown Portland. Until then!
