by Eric Chen Jul 12, 2009 Today's ride was absolutely amazing, however chilly. I decided to brave the morning with only a jersey and chamois... bad choice. We started the ride through a dense forest with small climbs. Zaid and Steven riding in front.
Before long, we hit the coast! My teammate Sheila and me.
Posted per Steven's request.
Once we past the coast, we started hitting this ridiculous fog. You can see it a bit in the previous pictures. But indeed, the mist was surreal! I guess this is where they get the term "Sierra Mist." Absolutely gorgeous or in Zaid's words, "MAJESTIC!"
After about 30 miles we came upon the 3 mile marker to the border where we prepped for the race to the Oregon border. With only a shoulder to work with, we had a fun time darting around each other competing for the lead. I was able to pull into second with about 50 meters left, and Navar in front of me. As we neared the finish, and I saw that he had won it, I let up a bit and Steven managed to sneak in a hands length to beat me to second, leaving me in third. I guess this is payback for me smoking him in the California border race... (Steven laughs as I narrate this aloud). And of course, we take our team picture at the border:
Finally we arrive at the Church of Nazarene in Brookings, got to take care of some business (e.g. laundry, collect MASSIVE amounts of donations-- Oregonians are so generous!). Tomorrow we have a long day ahead. In the meantime, enjoy this funny picture of my buds Julian, Steven, & Lance.
