by Julian Jones Jul 12, 2009 Day 34: To Eureka, CA
Getting out of a warm sleeping bag is one of the toughest things in the morning. We got a chance to camp in beautiful Richardson Grove last night, which was really nice. The morning started out with a bountiful pancake breakfast. I seriously had close to 4 of them, since they were just so good. We're headed to Eureka, CA today, which is actually I sizable town of more than 20k. That means there will be a store so I can get some more socks. All my socks are in a pretty sad sate now. They all have a gigantic hole where the big toe is. So much for quality Verge sports socks. Today, we got to ride through the valley of the giants, which is where all the Beautiful redwoods are located. Today's ride actually turned out really well. Our group ended up missing a rest stop, but the trailer missed it too, so Jon, Lance, Joel , and I got to have a private rest stop. The ride was pretty flat and went by really fast. Jon and Joel had enough songs to sing so I didn't have to think about my burning legs when I was going up the few hills
Arriving in Eureka, our host, Steve, greeted us with a "snack". Some of the things this snack included were Sushi, California Rolls, and Breaded brie Cheese Queso, Pulled Pork Sandwiches, Salsa, Chips, Tomatoes and Cheese Soda, Cookies, Shrimp, a block of rice with shrimp on top, a Vegetable Tray All in all, it was amazing The quality and amount of food was out of this world, and we all enjoyed it quite a bit. We even watched a bit of the Tour de France as well The neighbor was equally as amazing. Besides providing us with tons of snacks, and generosity beyond what we expected, her story about cancer was equally as inspiring. We also had dinner, and lots of fun conversations, and more eating. I think we all seriously gained some content poundage today, and we're so thankful for it.
