I Accidentally Took British Columbia

My first day back on the bike I got lost (missed a turn) and was the first rider to cross over into British Columbia. Luckily Carolyn, the ranger at the park the team was staying at that night saw me on the road, recognized my jersey and stopped me, even giving me a ride back to the exit. In the car she said "you even made it to British Columbia." "What?!" I asked, and then we passed a sign that said "Welcome to Alberta" and I realized I'd crossed the border without noticing. We stopped to redirect Brett and Libby, who had also just passed the exit. I had been riding with them earlier in the day when they decided to take a detour up to a lake, but on the climb up began to reconsider (climbs are especially hard on my still-healing knee) but Libby power-positived me into staying... until we passed a man walking down the hill who commented "You guys have quite a climb ahead of you." At which point I told Libby I'd meet them at the bottom of the hill, back on Highway 1 when they were done, and continued on on my own. Which is how I came to accidentally take the BC border. On my first day back on the bike. WooHoo.

That was nearly a week ago, and we've just had a wonderful day off here in Prince George. Brett, Lorig, Meg, Bredt, Libby, and I are staying with Maggee and Richard Thompson and have had one of the best days off ever. Brett and Libby and I spent the entire day without leaving the house. In the morning we had homemade muffins and coffee, we made additions to the table the Thompsons have for guests to draw on, we ate an awesome dinner and spent the majority of the day on the porch. They have great taste in art, which fills the house, which I've been soaking in all day. Their hospitality is especially warming after weeks of camping.

Internet access is becoming more and more infrequent, as are my entries and I have a feeling it won't improve much for the rest of the trip. Thank you to everyone at home sending emails and letters, they are exactally what I need. I'm excited about living in Austin again in the fall, but for the meantime I'm thrilled to be in Prince George at the Thompsons'. I love this place!
