Day 19 - Zion to Dammeron Valley (75 mi)

Today’s ride went by unquestionably fast. We rode about 45 miles in 2 hours. Thanks to our wonderful sags for the day, we landed Arby’s for lunch. Going into Dammeron Valley was a tad more difficult. By the time we left Arby’s the day had gotten hotter and we faced a big uphill in the last 20 mile stretch. Fortunately, we still made it into Dammeron Valley relatively early and got to relax a bit before dinner. We were welcomed with a full dinner provided by guests of the DV fire department. We also had the opportunity to conduct an impromptu presentation in front of the fire dept. That night Steven and I got to stay with some of the coolest hosts, Adam and Linda Strebeck. I want to thank them personally for their hospitality—they went above and beyond to make us comfortable. Steven and I were welcomed with fruit smoothies, a balcony view of the sunset in Utah, and a hot tub on a cliff sitting fireside. Also, they have 3 ring-tailed kittens being grown. Sitting in the hot tub, Adam shared with us about his mother, Wanda, and Gwen, Linda’s stepmom, who both died of cancer—Gwen only two months ago on April 23rd. Tomorrow, I will dedicate my ride to these two fine women who raised such upright people. Until then, check out some of these pictures from the ride.
