by Thaison Nguyen Jun 21, 2009 Day 12 - Beaver, OK to Guymon, OK Definitely another crazy day! It started out as a nice day with tail winds for the first 6 miles, but when we turned too start heading West... We had a DIRECT headwind. 30 mph winds coming straight at us! We took out time riding through the Oklahoma country and stopped to take pictures here and there. When we approached Guymon, OK the storm clouds started to roll in. We saw lightning a few miles off into the distance and a few rain drops trickle onto our faces and bikes. We looked in awe as the dark clouds rolled into the horizon. It was definitely a site to see! After we arrived in Guymon, we were all driven to the YMCA where they donated showers to us for free. We stretched, hit up the hot tub, showered, and were off to dinner. We ate at an amazing pizza place in town. I made a suicide drink just for old times (when you get a fountain drink and mix ALL of the available flavors into one). Soon after eating, Jan and I were so tired, we decided to go find a van to take a nap in. After waking up, we headed to the church where we were staying. We came across the most BEAUTIFUL sunset I had seen in a long time, so Emma, Susan Linn, Lauren, & I decided to run to the edge of the neighborhood to watch the sun set. It was gorgeous! We ran all the way down to the YMCA area just to watch the sun set. But as we watched it go, the storms were being blown towards us. Lightning was striking off in the distance, gusts of wind threw sand at our legs, and the rain started to drop from the skies. We decided it was a good time to run back and get to bed. We presented Carolina and Lisa with their birthday girl cards! We had been hiding it from them allllll day! :) Then after a game of pool, I was off to bed to ride the next morning. Here's a video blog I made throughout the day. Sorry for all the wind noise :/ I'm working on finding/making a wind cut for my point and shoot camera:
