by Thomas Neuman Jul 18, 2004 Day 19 I never thought that I would wake up at 6 AM on a day off but Zion just has too much to explore and we only have a day to do it. Our first destination for the day was Angel's Landing, which was a hike that would take us to a peak 1400 feet up. I wore my jersey on the hikes today for two reasons: 1. extra pockets and 2. People notice that it's not a normal shirt and ask me what Texas 4000 for Cancer is. The plan worked to perfection. We had people asking us what Texas 4000 for Cancer was all day and we were, of course, more than happy to tell them. Angel's Landing took almost 2 hours to climb but was well worth it. After a semi-sprint down the hiking trail to the bottom we went back to the campsite to grab a quick lunch and head for our next destination, The Narrows. The Narrows was a canyon that was carved out by the shallow, cold river that runs down the middle. The hike up the narrows was cold at times but again well worth it with sandstone cliffs shooting up on either side of you over 1000 feet and only about 60 feet apart. After over 5 hours of hiking The Narrows I decided to go back to camp and get some supper and get my stuff in order for tomorrow. The highlight of today was getting some mail from our mail drop. When you're away from friends and family it's nice to get something in the mail. It let's you know that people back home are thinking of you and that they miss you as much as you miss them. So for anyone who is reading this, SEND MAIL to your rider. With a day full of hiking I've become sorer that before I started. Time for bed.
