by Michael West Jul 18, 2004 So back when we were in Glacier National Park, the most beautiful park ever, we had a mail pick-up in Browning, a few miles back down the road. On our day off, Meg Merrit was very adament about going back to Browning to check for more mail. When Captain Maryweather returned from Browning with Meg and the mail, she handed us a bunch of letters. They were addressed to every individual on the team, and they were obviously all written by the same individual. Mine said: "Mike, You help make this team great. We would not be the same without you. You are a strong person and make me want to push harder. I am glad I have gotten to know you and hope we will be friends for years to come." The letters were all personalized, but the last sentences were always the same. Whoever wrote these letters was obviously helping to garner team spirit and friendship. Many people had a hunch that I wrote them. I don't want to take credit for another persons brilliant idea but I also don't want to spoil it. You see, whoever wrote these letters obviously knew that if nobody knew who wrote them the letter, they would have to remain friend with everyone. I don't know who wrote the annonymous letters, and it really doesn't matter. But I do have my suspicions. First, Adriano was the only team member who did not recieve a letter, so it make sense that he wrote them. Second, Lorig is very power positive, and she was in Helena, MT pretty early on the day that the letters were mailed. Third, we recieved the letters not long after Laura Noll organized a campfire circle in Yellowstone, during which we each shared something positive about the person we were sitting next to. Fourth, the letters were written while Tess Evans was stuck in the van for a few days after a little accident on the way out of Yellowstone Park during which she hurt her knee (she is back, better than ever now). So I know she had some time on her hands, and she is just the type of person to do this kind of thing. Fifth, it is obvious by the introduction to this story why I think that Meg wrote them. I could go on like this all day because I could think of reasons why it could be any person on the team. When it comes down to it, I am just thankful that I am surrounded by such great people that make things like this happen.
