Day 6 - Lubbock to Clovis, NM (102 mi)

I've arrived in New Mexico, the land of enchantment! The weather is cool at night, the landscape is flat, and the winds are dry and strong. After a 100 mile day, I must say I am physically exhausted but in good spirits. Our ride today was in short: long, flat, hot, and windy. I'm not too sure how I felt about today's ride. I thought it was definitely trying, as I was pushing myself all the way through-- I imagine the soreness and tiredness of previous days had since built up. I can confidently say that my legs have gotten so much stronger, yet so much sorer. I rely still on scripture and the names and faces of those affected by cancer to push me through the hard times during the day--today's being a headwind all the way to Clovis. Once we made it past the border and into the town, we were greeted with a giant "Welcome Texas 4000" sign and a wide assortment of crackers, cheese, hummus, meats, and chex mix. It was such a humbling experience being served by complete strangers who are only aware of the cause we're riding for. Our host is currently in the air force stationed in NM, and we had the opportunity to meet all of his coworkers and share with them our T4k presentation. I want to especially thank Steve and Lisa Saks for opening their home up to us and treating us like family--it felt like home. All in all, the day was good--I can't say it was an easy day for me, but I can say that I'm glad we pushed through and didn't relent. There was one point during the ride (I think around mile 80) and we were facing this vicious headwind. To help ourselves push through, we decided to dedicate each consequent mile until we reached the border to one of our friends/someone we know affected by cancer. It's always good to be reminded of why we ride. I am exhausted, but please check back again for pictures when I can get them up! Take care you guys, thanks for following, and please keep our team and those battling cancer in your thoughts and prayers!
