Day 5 - Snyder to Lubbock (90 mi)

Today was an eventful day--it seems like so long ago. When we woke up, we went to breakfast at the Church of Christ in Snyder; they were SO encouraging and welcoming. I learned that it seems in small towns, everyone seems to know and care for each other, looking out for the community. I could sense their sincerity and genuine concern. They prayed over us as our morning began, and that really encouraged me. Pastor Mark did so much for our team, and I am so grateful for his personal prayers and effort on behalf of the team. We rolled our of Snyder with a police escort and headed northbound of Hwy 84 (the bumpiest road EVER). The weather that morning was overcast, which saved us from the heat, but eventually we hit a storm with some light drizzle. More eventfully, however, in one day, 19 of our 21 riders got at least one flat tire amounting to a total of 29 flats, wiping out nearly half of our extra supply. So crazy. Even Steven who at the beginning of the day boasted about his tires being golden and flat proof ended up getting 3 flats that day. Funny and slightly sad at the same time. I know morale was hit by those instances, but we made it through alive and well. Tonight we are staying in the McPherson Winery, and it is simply AMAZING--absolutely beautiful. The back has large vats for fermenting the wine, and even further back is an open sky patio with a running fountain. The host was even kind enough to set up a make shift shower which connected directly to the water supply. Upon arriving in Lubbock, we were greeted by the local news stations, and I ended up appearing on the Lubbock Fox channel. If I can find the link, I'll be sure to post it up! I want to especially thank Lisa, Denise, Bruce and Ed who shared with us their stories, food, and kind words of encouragement. Without your help and support, we wouldn't be where we are today, so thank you guys! It was truly truly a pleasure stopping through Lubbock. Tomorrow we ride to New Mexico! I hear it will be flat but it is 100+ miles so we shall see. Until then, take care you guys!
