by Adam Pirkle Jul 10, 2004 Back in Gilroy, CA (a little over a week ago), B-Hard (that would be Ben Hardwicke) and Doug came down with a nasty case of what we thought was really bad food poisoning. Sunny drove them to the hospital around 1am. It turned out to be a two- to three-day stomach virus. Two nights later in San Francisco, Steve, Stu, Sunny got sick. They stayed with Chris' aunt while the remainder of the group rode to Bodega Bay. Paul got sick at the campsite that night; he's a tough one, so he got dressed the next morning and wanted to ride, but we told him no and he fell asleep on a picnic table. We shuttled the recovering riders from SF to Point Arena, and thought that we were rid of The Virus. However, it turns out that Chris' mom, brother, and grandmother all got sick back in SF. It turns out after illness, injuries, mechanical problems, et cetera, Scott and myself are the only two riders who have ridden the entire distance from Texas to Oregon. There's a rumor that Mrs. Condit may join us in Portland to take over van driving duties when Sunny flies home, so there's a chance that I'll be able to make it all the way without spending time in the van (the section in Canada that we'll be driving along notwithstanding).
