by Eric Chen Apr 13, 2009 Two days ago the team and I biked our "60-70" mile ride in preparation for the century test next weekend. After two power bars, two PB&J sandwiches, six 20 oz of fluids, a bag of pretzels, and an orange slice-- I made it through! Good Friday being the night before, I celebrated with my campus ministry at our Thank God It's Friday "service" where we celebrated Christ's death and resurrection through song and dance. It ran late into the evening leaving me about 6 hours of sleep to run on! Nervously, I got up, made some oatmeal and honey, geared up and headed down to the CPE to meet up with my devoted cancer fighting teammates. To be honest, I don't remember much from this ride. It was long, and the weather was dreary-- but the pace was bearable and the wind wasn't too fierce. We did face some hills in Westlake that were so steep that if you sat back in your saddle, you would surely slip/flip backwards. The quads feel it, but I am feeling good and ready to face the 100-miler this coming weekend. I hope I don't regret writing that last sentence haha. In the coming week, I will be prepping for the Century Test this Saturday, hopefully eating healthy, getting enough sleep. I will dedicate my Saturday ride to my middle school friend Charlie Lin who has been battling cancer pretty much since we parted ways. He was diagnosed with thyroid cancer what seems like so long ago, fought it off, and now he awaits lab results to see if the cancer is still gone or has returned in some form. I can't imagine what the wait is like for him, but I praise God for his strength and faith to push on. Please keep praying for him! I will be, too. until next time, Eric
