by Eric Chen Mar 01, 2009 After finishing a busy week of school, I finally got back out on my bike this weekend for a 35-40 mile ride out to Buda, Texas and back with the team this morning. I'm not sure what happened since training camp in Fayetteville last weekend, but today's ride seemed a lot smoother even with the heavy winds. I attribute this to the fact that thanks to training camp, we all feel a lot more comfortable on our bikes and riding close to our teammates. We had a few close calls today with overlapping wheels and chains falling off the gears, but thank goodness no one was hurt (at least in our group). Today we learned the importance of keeping a steady pace, really using the bike computer to help us stay consistent in speed, and remembering not to accelerate out too fast from stops. There was a point where our group almost caught up to the fastest group--we were in plain sight of them. This was exciting b/c we knew that this was accomplished by all of us but only because we had worked together, communicating and taking turns "pulling," or leading the pace line to break the wind for everyone riding behind you. Overall, I'm feeling good, and I'm happy to say after some bike fit adjustments I felt good during the ride too. Can't wait to get back out there. Until next time!
