by Tess Evans Jul 09, 2004 After the accident last week I took a few days off because of the pain in my knee. I thought it might be due to the fact that I have hyper-elastic knees, but then realized the pain was from the jarring nature of the accident. After two or three days, when it felt like it was not getting better I decided to see a physician in Great Falls. Best decision ever. I had been frustrated sitting in the van, not knowing how long it would be before I could ride. And the doctor gave me a finite number of days, making me feel much better about sagging in the wagon. The doctor examined my knee and told me I had a ¨peteaula-or-something¨ contusion (which means the bone is bruised.) She told me it would take 6-7 weeks to heal, and when I looked at her with a gapping jaw she said she would prescribe 7days off, but that I could get away with only 5 more. I asked her if I should be building up, riding a little more each day and she told me that I had to take at least 2-3 days off. Which sounded much more realistic. So, I have had a total of 7 days to recover- only taking 4 days off since 2 of those were van days and one was a team day-off. Tomorrow we have the day here in Calgary and Sunday will be my first time back on the bike since the accident. Besides the few times I tried to pedal around at rest stops before I got the prognosis. The doctor said it will be painful, and she gave me some pills for the pain. She also said that I can't make the injury worse. Which is good. So for now, we are in Calgary, and its stampede here (a huge event)_ and tomorrow is our day off here in the city. Very nice.
