Day 36: Drive day to Brookings, OR

Today was mine and David's turn at driving once again. It was only a 70 mile day AND a border race, so I would have rather ridden, but it was overwhelmingly cold on the coast today (which I know I wouldn't have handled well) so I guess it's for the best. David and I woke up at 6:30 am to get breakfast ready for everybody. When I opened the trailer door, a little chipmunk was sitting on a ransacked bag of pistachio nuts... just sitting there, with that little chipmunk laugh in his eyes. What a punk. Apparently last night when I locked up the trailer the little sucker got in there and ran amok on all of our food.

But we had another run in with nature this morning. Shortly after we started waking everyone else up, we heard a rustling and crashing in the leaves behind our camp and suddenly two huge bull elk stalk out of the shrubbery, no less than 20 yards away from us. We asll asat in complete awe, afraid to move, as these huge beasts welcomed themselves into our camp.

Other than that, driving went well. We had a rest stop underneat a huge Paul Bunyan statue, and David and I got over $120 worht of food donated for dinner, which made everyone pretty happy.
