by Val Hope Jul 09, 2008 So I've been very bad about blogging but honestly the little free we've had the only thing I want to do is nap or eat... We've seen so much since my last entry. We're finally in California (and out of the desert). I'm absolutely in love with the state!!! First with the Sierra Mountains, Yosemite, San Francisco, riding across the cloudlike foggy Golden Gate bridge, then finally Highway 1 (I'll ignore the trouble the wildfires have been given my already congested lungs), and now the Redwood Forest. Yesterday we left scenic Highway 1 and had our 2nd worst climb of our whole trip. After hearing about all the nightmares about this day from the previous years I was expecting the worst, but honestly it was one of my favorite rides (again sans hazy, ashy air). Today we rode on the Avenue of the Giants through the Redwood Forest- I never want to leave. Tomorrow we'll actually have a restday in the Redwood National Forest, which is the part of the trip I've been looking forward to the most. What I love most about the quietness and eternal feeling of nature is being surrounded by nothing but trees as far as the eye can see.Being in the forest gives you so much time to think and absorb all the things you've experienced up to this point. I really can't capture all the beauty and genuineness we've experienced over the past 33 days. So thank you to everyone who has helped us make it this far! I can't believe we've made it this far on bikes. When standing in the icecold Pacific in San Francisco I really wished everyone I knew could be there that second to experience...
