by Laura Noll Jul 02, 2004 I have so much to write and so little time. In addition, my hands are very cramped up from riding (no clue why- probably circulation) so this will definitely be short. Since Casper: -Riding 100 miles to Shashonie in the wind -milk shakes, biker gangs, a shindig, and Adriano's love affair (just...kidding) -wind river canyon and hot springs -YELLOWSTONE (soooo beautiful but very touristy) -first real camping with Texas 4000 -met Tyson who is solo biking across the country (he stayed with us for a while) -solo bike ride around the park on my day off... learned a lot about park history and got much needed Laura-time -met tons of cancer survivors -scary bison... heards and heards of them -bald headed eagles and a lone owl -HUGE elk and a fox near old faithful -grizzly bears but only 2... no attacks -Dan and Tess fell at a bridge before the West Gate exit to the park (they are okay but taking it easy). Thanks to the EMTs and park ranger who were at the scene to help us -swimming in the river with Paul... cold but refreshing -90 mile decent through beautiful Montana to Bozeman... it was really amazing despite the headwind... I CAN'T BELIEVE HOW BEAUTIFUL IT IS HERE!!!!! But most importantly since I last wrote: During out last night in Yellowstone we met a woman who has battled more than her share of cancer. Five members of her family, including herself have been affected. Talking with her really refocused me on our cause. We have been on the road over a month now and I have felt my concentration waning in the last week or so. We are all very fatigued and there is a lot of group anxiety floating around about entering Canada and beyond. Speaking for myself only, I have not been as focused on why we are out here. I have been selfishly thinking of my fatigue, the beauty of the parks, and team issues... forgetting that this is a cancer ride. As we get more remote, it is harder to make presentations. I believe out last was in Medicine Bow, WY. While we meet and try and educate people daily, I really needed to refocus coming into Montana. Talking to this lady I realized that even though we will be travelling remote areas there is still a lot of good we can accomplish. I have learned that this trip is a full time job and there isn't a lot of room to loose focus. The cause is too great and there just aren't enough people working on it. So to the lady from West Yellowstone, I thank you for reminding me of what's important.
