northward

The further north we go the more nervous I get about the Yukon. I asked one of our van leaders the other week what the showers looked like at the place they had dropped our bags off at (a dorm) and Paul said "the Yukon is going to eat you alive." I'm afraid he's right. I'm working on becoming scrappier, but there is little room for transition. We did the entire ride to day passing only a single gas station between our departure city and arrival, and that was a 93 mile ride. The scenery is beautiful and the horizon is 180 degrees, you can see the entire sky again (like Kansas.) But the bleak geography can be a little intimidating. Especially when you think you might need some of the things that civilization provides. Like toilets and climate control. Don't worry, I'll learn to love it. Just have to put on the pink pedal pushers (long story.)

Tonight we're staying in Casper and we just ate the best dinner, thanks to the Georges and Dietrichs. Today was also Mike West's birthday so we surprised him with a cake, card and sunflowers. I'm afraid more celebration is impossible since tomorrow is a 100 mile ride to Shonini, WY where we'll stay the night in a fire station.
