Day 16

Capps was contacted early in the morning and they are going to give us a new van, which they are driving to us from Albuquerque. With some free time on our hands until the riders arrived from Shonto we decided to check out a couple of the local sights. We first went to Horseshoe Canyon, which is a canyon in the shape of a horseshoe with the Colorado River running through it. I didn't notice how high up we were until Sunny said, "Hey, look at that house down there." What I thought were bushes at the bottom were actually very large trees. This is by far the deepest canyon that I have ever seen. After Horseshoe Canyon we went to take a look at Lake Powell. Since I have never seen lakes or rivers outside of central Texas this was a sight to see. The water was so clear that you could see 40 feet down when you looked under. The rest of the riders arrived around 3:30 PM and were treated to a Police escort by the Page Police Department. Everyone is staying in the same place that we stayed last night, the Days Inn. Everyone decided that they wanted to go and check out Lake Powell before supper so we made a return visit. Everyone was as impressed as I was a few of the riders did a little cliff jumping into the water from 55 to 65 feet. With spirits high from the great treatment that we were given by the Days Inn and the fun from Lake Powell we went to the Elk Lodge great roast beef and mashed potato supper. After some great conversation with the Sheriff and some citizens of Page at the lodge everyone went back to the hotel to do miscellaneous things such as laundry. I got to sleep in a bed two nights in a row so I should be pretty fresh for the ride into Utah tomorrow.
