by Lauren Briscoe Jun 20, 2008 We are officially in Arizona!! yay!! Today our ride was pretty awesome. We had a tail wind! I had forgotten what that felt like! We also had an insane downhill into the Shonto, where we're staying. We have to bike up that hill in the morning though, and I am NOT looking forward to that. The scenery out here is pretty amazing- all the cliffs of red rock. In fact, I'm pretty sure some of my more energetic teammates are out climbing up huge red mountains right now. I would love to be doing that too, but after a long day of riding and another hot day tomorrow, I'm thinking I'll sit inside under the fan. We are seriously in the middle of nowhere. Cell phone reception is pretty much nonexistent and sometimes, hours will pass without me ever passing a building. Just long stretches of road, 18 wheelers, and pickup trucks. Last night we stayed in Mexican Water, Arizona. The entire town consisted of a truck stop and a restaurant. Seriously. That's it. One block. We camped out in tents at a truck stop and bathed in a garden hose. Tonight the laundromat across the street had showers which was totally amazing. $3 for the best shower of my life. Some man just walked in and offered to show us some really cool cliffs?? Or something? About a 10 minute walk, so I guess I'll get off my lazy butt and go do something interesting.
