by Lauren Briscoe Jun 16, 2008 Today was our day off in Albuquerque, NM and boy was it awesome! We stayed in the house of the mayor, whose son is on the rockies route. They were beyond amazing at providing for us. I have eaten such great food and had such a great day. I only wish we could tack on an extra twenty miles to the next few days and stay here an extra night. Okay not really. Our days are long enough and I'm not exactly the strongest cyclist on the team. An extra 20 everyday would probably kill my soul a little bit. Tomorrow we're heading to Cuba, NM. It's only supposed to be around 80 miles... but it only took a few days for me to figure out that an 80 mile day usually turns into a 90 mile day. People have this habit of calculating the milage from the border of the starting city to the border of the ending city, but once you actually bike to where ever we're staying, it's usually an extra 10+ miles. Tonight an AMAZING man came and ate dinner with us. He had osteosarcoma and had his leg removed and then biked through the mountains. CRAZY!
