by Thomas Neuman Jun 25, 2004 Day 11 I slept this morning until 8:15, which is now considered sleeping in. Most of the morning was spent cleaning bikes, doing laundry, or catching up on journal entries. I personally spent the morning catching up on journal entries until it was time to go to the ACS in Albuquerque for lunch. We all rode our bikes there together and we were turning heads as usual with our large numbers. When we got to the ACS we were provided a great lunch and spoke with their representatives about how we have been doing and our personal reasons for wanting to do this ride. They were very nice people who praised us highly for what we were doing but it is them who deserve all the praise because without the ACS we would not be where we are today when it comes to cancer education, detection, and treatment. The afternoon was filled with more free time so I went to the laundry mat to wash some clothes. I had to walk there because all the vehicles were gone and I had too much stuff to carry and bike. I almost got lost but luckily Adam was riding his bike there as well so he pointed me in the right direction. As soon as the clothes were done I went back to the church and prepared things for their youth group. The Presbyterian Churches Youth Group was coming to have supper with us and for us to give them a presentation. Half us of stayed at the church for the youth group and the other half went to the ACS Relay for Life in nearby Rio Rancho. The church youth group was kind of shy at first but we took care of that by dividing them up among us at different tables when we ate. Kartik and Suchin lead the presentation and did a wonderful job. We told the youth our personal reasons for doing the ride and educated them on what cancer is, what causes cancer, and some detection methods. The kids were very attentive and I hope that they learned a lot from us. Most of them were sophomores or freshman in high school. After the presentation I was pretty much worn out so I went to bed but at least my legs got a day to rest.
