New Bikes and Training

Allright, so I haven't been as diligent as I should about updating this blog, so this might be a long post. Beware!

First of all, my mom is doing amazing. She had surgery back in November and recovered extremely well. She has since begun chemotherapy and radiation therapy to no ill effect. The dosage she is taking is substantially low, so she won't lose her hair and as far as side effects are concerned only feels fatigued every now and then. Other than that, she's doing awesome. If you look in the dictionary for the word 'trooper' you're likely to see a picture of my mom.

Second, and I'm just bursting trying to keep the excitement in for this one, we got our bikes!!! They are gorgeous. I'm beginning to find myself irrevocably attached. Since I picked up my bike two weeks ago I haven't been able to go a day without at least cruising around the parking lot of my apartment on it. Cycling is swiftly becoming my drug of choice. Many people have given their bikes names. I still haven't been able to think of a name that's worthy, but when I do I'll be sure to update you.

Last weekend, the team went to training camp. We drove out to the sprawling metropolis of Fayetteville (population: 6), where we met with the coaching staff, some of who were world champions several times over. We logged around 75 miles for the whole weekend. I can honestly say that that's the longest I've ever ridden at one time in my entire life, and I think my backside would agree. But truthfully, it was a blast. The weekend was an opportunity for everyone on the team to really spend some time getting to know each other better. I'm really excited that I get to spend the whole summer with some of these amazingly interesting, and hilarious people.

Other than that, things are going extremely well. Thank you so much to all of you who have donated to our cause. This means the world to me and to those that we will reach this summer. For now, I have to get these legs ready to get me to Alaska!
