tailwinds and downhills

When we first set out today it was freezing and mist prevented us from seeing more than a half mile in front of us. The first few miles were a little rough and then the weather lightened up and the wind started blowing... at our backs... in no time we were flying and the scenery was amazing, that first half has been my favorite ride so far, the Rockies running just along side us, with the road laid out before us. At one point we were rolling at 30 without really having to try. We were flying down this hill and I clocked my fastest speed ever, 40mph, then I heard this noise. I thought I was going to die. I thought, 'If I get a flat at this speed I could easily loose control and fly over the handlebars.' But it was just a loose reflector making a ton of noise. I still kept that thought in mind for the rest of the downhills though.

Around halfway the wind turned into a headwind, but today was short (only 44 miles) so it wasn't so bad. Lorig and I pulled up to the first turn of the last 4 miles only to discover I'd gotten flat, but we were trying to beat the storm so we tried to keep pumping it up with air since it was a slow leak and we didn't want to stop.

My dad is in Denver (where we are now) on buisness and he drove down to Colorado Springs last night to visit. He took all the girls (except Brynn-who declined and Laura- who was out climbing mountains) out to dinner to Boca de Pepo, it was great.
