A greatly needed day off

So to is Day 12 and we are all in Wichita, Kansas. We arrived yesterday to the wonderful hospitatlity of the Synder's who let us swim in their pool, do laundry, and they fed us. Really realyl cool people who are actually big cyclists themselves so it is really neat to be able to talk bikes with them. They have been cycling for a lot of years and have given us great advice. We are even trying to talk them into joining us later in the ride and riding with us a couple of days. I hope they come because it would be great.

But anyway, yesterday was 62-miles and was pretty easy. The landscape was really pretty very green and we past by a lot of wheat fields which was really great. The people in Kansas are really nice too. Everyone on the road has been very friendly and has asked a lot of questions about why we are riding when we are stopped at stop lights.

So back to when we arrived. I think my favorite part of the day was when Mike, Martina, and I went on a crazy river adventure. Behind their backyard the Snyder's have a creek that recently flooded and they let us take their canoe out to explore. The didn't think we would get very far because there we sooo man low lying branches and trees but we prevailed!! We conquered that creek like nothing else! And we braved thorny trees, tons of branches, showers of spiders, and even some small rapids near the golf course to reach the end. I am still finding bruises from all the trees. heh. But it was a lot of fun and when we got back the food was ready and everything.

So after we all ate and cleaned up our mess we headed out to the campsites they had reserved for us. There we pitched some tents and layed out our sleeping bags and gazed at the stars. It was really peaceful and we all were very happy that the next morning we would be able to sleep in.

So today we have a day off and it is well needed. I think all of our legs are tired and we will not have another rest day until Denver, CO. But for now we will just sit back and keep eating, cause that is what we do. Bike, eat, and sleep.

I hope this summer never ends.
